Here, Kitty Kitty: The Trials and Celebrations of Moving Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh My!
As told by Debbie Forde, Director of Animal Resources
When your stories start with “Well, the plan was …” or “What was supposed to happen …” and ends with an exotic species making it safely to their new home, you might be Debbie Forde. Debbie has spent a large portion of her zoological career deciphering the legalities and logistics of housing and transporting animals across the country and around the world to different organizations. She also has a story or two to share when it comes to those actual animal moves. Sure, it might sound easy to send three male lions to Mexico, but wait until you hear that story.
Meet the Expert: Debbie Forde
Day Job: Director of Animal Resources is the ultimate “duties as assigned” position. My official job description says, amongst other things, that I am responsible for overseeing the registrar, permits, animal records, acquisition/transfer documents, and informing and working with the animal teams on regulatory standards compliance.
Meet the Cocktail: The Aviation
A classic cocktail that nearly went extinct after Prohibition, the Aviation dates back to 1911 and was first recorded in 1916. Crème de violette, a liquor flavored by the flower of the same name, gives the aviation its distinct flavor and sky-at-dusk purplish hue.
